Your RipRope Leashes are shock-absorbing. What does that mean?
For all our Leashes, we use polyamide belts. Due to their durability and natural elasticity, these are also used in mountaineering and in the car industry.
Both, the BELT and the NIRWANA will stretch up to 40 cm at load. This way, both Leashes absorb the strong pull that happens when riding unhooked. This will protect your Leash, your harness and your ribs. Sounds good? We think so, too!
Where do you manufacture your RipRope Leashes?
All our Leashes are handmade in St. Pauli, the heart of Hamburg, Germany. We collaborate with a leading belt manufacturer who produces the material to our specifications. #madeingermany
What's the production process of your Leash?
Our belts and neoprene covers are sewed using highly durable multi-filament thread made by Amann(R). This job is performed by a automated industrial sewing machine, made by market leader JUKI(R). For sewing, we use rounded SUK needles made by Schmetz(R) - these needles push the belt fibres aside instead of cutting throug them. This way, durability and quality of the Leash are increased.
The carbine hooks for the BELT and NIRWANA are made by market leader Wichard (France). As the stress on the FREE is typically a little less, we use a standard product with checked functionality and quality here.
We could not find components for the quick release that suited our needs. Therefore we decided to have small batches of the components manufactured by experienced suppliers. This way we can make sure to meet our high expectations regarding quality and functionality.
How do you test your RipRope Leashes?
Before delivery, your Leash undergoes a test cycle: We simulate a very high load and finally we perform an emergency release.
So, first the quick release of your Leash is tested with a load of 250 kg for durability. Then, the load is reduced to 75 kg, and the quick release is pulled. The force required to perform the release is recorded on noted on the Birth Sheet of the Leash.
Why is there a visible steel spring on your quick release?
We discussed this topic a lot - good looks vs. functionality. In our opinion, it's important to avoid the buildup of sand and other debris. So we decided to go with an open design. The ends of the spring are embedded in countersinks and thereby reduce the risk of line tangles to a minimum.
Why are the quick release springs replaceable?
Our quick release allows you to set three different release forces, depending on the spring. The factory setup is adjusted to the respective application of the Leash. Depending on your individual requirements, the release force can be increased or reduced. For pro riders, there a very hard contest spring is available. Due to its high release force, this spring has to be ordered separately. Use at your own risk!
What are the typical forces to open the quick release?
We determine the quick release opening force und 75 kg load on the leash. The following values are typical:
- FREE: ca. 4kg
- BELT/NIRWANA: ca. 6kg
- BELT/NIRWANA with contest spring: ca. 8kg
